Timing was perfect. I moved in my new house on August 14 and did not have internet connection until tonight. I could just check emails on my Blackberry and reply with no more than 50 word messages.
It must be the reason why I have already unpacked everything and the house now looks homey. It must be the reason why Moki and I got reacquainted with the beauty of Mount Washington and were able to count more than 60 different trees in our backyard. I can't get over the feeling of being in a place like Laveno, my grandma's big house in the hills of Lago Maggiore where we used to spend our summers.
I can't also get over the nostalgic feeling of not having my sister here to enjoy the house together with me, unfortunately. I was very sad when some of her favorite pieces of furniture arrived from Italy and were brought inside. Now I am getting used to them and think she would appreciate me keeping and bringing them across the ocean. I am known not to keep much of my own stuff. In fact, I found out I even gave away all pans, pots and dishes when I opned the pod storage unit with the remains of my last house in Long Beach. But Marina's things are different. I HAD to take them with me. Just as a few that belonged to my mom. They remind me of them in a good way. And in some way, to see their things around makes me feel like they can still share at least some of this beautiful place. They would have loved it here.
Moki certainly does. We can take night walks without stepping out of the gate. But I have to put him on the leash to make sure that he does not run up to a coyote or a raccoon. We are in their canyon, aren't we? And we really hope to stay, this time. Please, let me stay put for a while. I don't need the 23rd move too soon!
