Hunt is over! One day short of one month from my landing in the U.S., I marked the end of my hunt for a suitable place to live, peacefully and creatively, in my beloved City of Angels.
I had many confused ideas since I love the ocean immensely but also like canyon land and the woods.I wanted to be close to my son who lives in Long Beach but I also need to be closer to where L.A. is happening and I do not like flat land. Topanga seemed a good option but one month here convinced me it would be too easy to slip in cultural laziness when you live in a place so remote, accessible only through a windy steep road. You certainly don't go to the movies at night if you just made it back from work driving more than a hour!
So it was back to Mount Washington where my former house was. But this new place sits on the opposite side of the hill in a nicer and more convenient location. It's made of wood shingles and looks like a cabin in Big Sur, surrounded by mature trees. There are three different levels of gardens to plant lot of flowers and an organic veggie and herb garden. And the lower parcel is big enough to build on an octagonal or round dojo with glass walls to practice yoga or martial arts.
Other nice features are an unobstructed west view of the sun setting behind the hills in front, an office den where I can see myself writing my next book, the hard boiled L.A. thriller I started to think about three years ago right on these slopes, two fireplaces, a lanai, and plenty of SPACE. Abundant outdoor space, which is most important to me, and good sized rooms that don't make me feel oppressed even when I am confined indoor.
Now I can't wait that Marina's and my mom's furniture--the few pieces I decided to bring over here--will arrive in port. It's nice to have a home that would fit them like a glove.
The added benefit, I can't deny, was taking my name off all automated real estate searches, daily e-mail updates and newsletters regarding purchase of a house. It is too distracting! Time to clean up my mind by all this brick & mortar business and focus on more creative endeavors.
A roof on my head and a cloud of foliage to screen me from the outside world sometimes, it's all I need. Now that I have assured that, let's talk about expanding and daring into new territories.
YOu deserve this break. Finally, almost time to relax...
