I got Moki set up for international traveling again. We will leave from Zurich with Swiss Airlines since Swiss has a record as the most human company flying animals overseas. Two years ago they did a great job and Moki landed safe & sound after the long flight from LAX. Now that we are returning to California for good, I found out that Moki needs more than his luggage with the posh tag Litty gave him as a good-luck charm and his vet's certificate of good health. He needs his own passport, just like you and me. Therefore I got him one. Moki-The-Dog is now enrolled as an American expat once become European and now going to take up American residence again.
Talking about reincarnations, that dog is quite lucky. Not only he has his own passport, something most dogs don't even dream about. He will have lot of anecdotes to tell his Venice Beach friends recalling the warm and loud Italian people who spoiled him over the two years of his stay, and the delicious food!
I am obviously more than ready to take up American residence again myself. Virtually, I always kept it. But I spent more time in Italy than the U.S. in these last three years and can't wait to go back to my old habits doing the opposite. Now that Marina and my mom are gone, my trips to Italy will become less frequent and even shorter.
Both my passports are ready, the American and the Italian. I couldn't sleep at night if my passport was not ready for traveling on the spur of the moment anytime. This is a thing I really shared with my sister, no treasure has ever been more precious than our passports. And both our passports started to look lived up quickly, full of stamps and visas from far away foreign countries when we still were teenagers. I kept Marina's passports together with her journals and scrapbooks of her many journeys. They too will come to California with me and Moki so that Marina can someway come too. That is what I had in mind, taking Marina to the U.S. as soon as she was healthy enough to bear the long flight. Now that is not going to happen, I want to take with me at least her spirit and traveler's enthusiasm. I'm sure she will enjoy to get aboard, one way or the other.
